What a petty and childish thing to say. He has clearly staked a lot of his life on his image of being the defining fantasy author of his age, and his work becoming an object of ridicule must be very unpleasant for him. Yeah he has money, but he's still writing because his IDENTITY is Brandon Sanderson the Fantasy Writer Guy. And if that falters it doesn't matter what money he has, he will be miserable.
You can't buy your way into having more talent, you can't buy your way into writing better. I guess you can buy your way into having a better editor, but the problem here is clearly that he doesn't WANT an editor, he wants to fulfill this vision which has been shaped by Reddit, and Reddit has bad taste so that vision sucks.
