The USSR never "collapsed" it was dismantled on purpose due to a comedy of errors and bad luck that occured that allowed Neoliberals to seize power after Andropov's death, and institute a program of destroying socialism ideologically, while dismantling the USSR, it's economy and pawning it off to their Bratva, Israeli, City of London and US handlers.

Starting with Khruschev, started introducing half-assed reforms which created a corrupt parasite class at the top of Soviet production firms who acted as a crypto bourgiousie. Infighting between various departments as well, led to stagnation and massive industrial espionage between departments and firms under Brezhnev (for example the Soviet Internet and the N1 rocket engines).
Come the early 1980s, it's clear the Soviet union needs, reforms, they elect Andropov. He brings in people from all walks of life and a bunch of different ideologies, to basically reform the USSR. He starts with massive scale corruption purges, this actually starts working the USSR starts improving. It's budget back in black, the Soviet economy seeing improving growth.
Andropov IMMEDIATELY fucking DIES, and the Neoliberal faction that was brought in, led by Alexander Yakovlev, seizes power, and puts a puppet into power, Gorbachev.
