Funnily enough, Nintendo themselves changed it with this cheap port collection so Lakitu's movement no longer even made sense and there were no camera settings to speak of. Luckily, enough people complained so they at least patched in camera options sometime after release and people could play the 3D Mario games like how they remember playing them.
