From what I recall that entire discussion stemmed from me asking about why you would use certain pins you obtained earlier in the game which I argued weren't as good to use because of their lower damage compared to a lot of newer stuff you found that attacked the same way, cemented you into certain attacks, or some of the status effect pins feeling difficult to weave into a lot of fights before someone was dead or their effect wore off. One guy was arguing that they still retained their strength later on in the game with the counterpoint being that their damage was lower but you could cancel them easier or use them to start up specific elemental specials with little effort.

Pretty sure the entire discussion was concluded amicably with me agreeing they were useful if you liked comboing or canceling to juggle stuff but it required you to want to do that over dealing with encounters quicker or deal with more field management. Many of the discussions early on at release were also coming from the angle of trying to make combos and be flashy while taking advantage of the pin specials which might prolong the battles but feel better to perform whereas I was just looking at it from a quick kill perspective and getting out of battles faster without relying on the specials all the time.

I seem to recall one person pointing out a few days later when people were regularly reaching postgame that one of the starter pins could be used to counter Sho's secret boss form easier for example and I want to say the punches were being shown to be something you could easily cancel in and out of. TWEWY threads are great for helping you learn stuff.
