Lucy and Mike being together at all would be such an awful ending without growth from both of them, which won't happen because Mike is not allowed to stand his ground without divine punishment and Lucy is not allowed to suffer without the world rewriting itself to accommodate her. Even if they made up Lucy would rather die than be open about her feelings and letting herself be vulnerable, and she really doesn't give a shit about others if it doesn't affect her too, and Mike while being very kind, loyal and attentive is a doormat who would let her do as she pleased until he snapped, or would just live with resentment towards her constantly.
