Trying to open the eyes of the masses is the great work, yes, but once you see the big picture it's evident that the collective was never meant to wake up, that's why Buddhism teaches dettachment. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't keep trying, only that you should do so without expectations, or else defeatism will get you sooner or later. You can't wake up anyone but yourself.
Revelations isn't fiction, it's alchemical allegory.
You won't need to become a criminal to resist the mark, because there will be no one to rob from, and ultimately, there will be no 'you' either.
