When will that pearl clutching stop? In no state is the majority of housing in an HOA. If you live in an HOA, it is due to you making that choice freely and you should suffer the consequences. The "flyover" states are the least likely to have HOAs. Sounds like you moved into an HOA, acted like a nigger, and got mad that you had to abide by rules you agreed to.
People with a brain and values either choose freedom by not being in an HOA or abide by the rules they agreed to in an HOA (including the possibility of rule changes) in exchange for keeping out certain undesirables.
HOA fees and rules are easy to avoid: just don't live in an HOA.
