It tried to *fix* something Sands of Time struggled with, which was the combat. The problem is that adding more things to combat didn't help because the meat and potatoes of Sands of Time is using your array of acrobatic skills to traverse environments to get to the next point. Those parts are always the most fun and high points of the games. Trying to force in more combat or attempting more complexity doesn't do the main draw of the game any favors. Generally the platforming can be fun in Two Thrones. New skills like scaling or sliding down tight spaces, and using your chains to swing or pull out objects for platforming.
