No you get money for taking out gang-members. They have bounties on their heads. When you clear out a gang of thugs or clear out a gang hideout your bank account gets money because you're automatically collecting the bounty on the heads of the criminals you just wiped out.

I mean, it's not just in my head, that is what's going on in the game lol.

iight last one for now. Just think it's freakin cool that there's weaponized cars with turrets and missiles on them. Reminds me of my favorite childhood game series, Twisted Metal.

My only complaint so far is that some of the story missions have been boring, which is crazy because exploring the world I was able to find weaponized vehicles you can shoot rockets and machine gun turrets with like a modern day Twisted Metal game. I’m guessing the car missions come later lol? I am only at the beginning of the game so I will forgive a slowish start.
