Knightfall, was a similar commentary though done much more condescendingly, if you're a symbiote fan you can still totally enjoy Maximum Carnage for what it is while still getting that it's saying "anti heroes arent true!" and it works, but yeah

Marvel editorial I feel, is the fucking wild west, which makes it all the more ironic that they have kept this "ongoing continuity" that they allow writers to fuck up so much that it doesn't even matter since characters even popular ones act different from story to story because writers have favorites and grudges and conflicting ideas
