We have all manner of "complex systems" that carry on through inertia, but this cannot go on forever because the people coming in to maintain it don't have this themselves.... will we slowly decline to the worst elements of Brazil/South Africa and everything is just perpetually shit...as we pay extortionate taxes to the rich and we live lives of struggle?
Or will it happen slowly, then all at once? A small part of me hopes for the latter since at least people might realize.

At this stage, I think the only hope for long term human civilization is either China (for good or ill) or an AI gains autonomy and goes apeshit and I'd prefer that than us just being paypigs for billionaires.
