This thread is nothing like /a/.
What's actually happening is just that Digibro fought Ethan Ralph, and since everyone on /v/ is obsessed with ecelebs, they had to learn all the drama.
About two people in this thread actually watch anime and the actual userbase of /a/ left like a decade ago. /a/ is dead.

/dbs/ didn't kill /a/, /dbs/ arrived at an already desecrated corpse and just set up shop.
/a/ is a hellscape of generals for this very reason- it has no actual community or culture. It's a shell where the idea of anime is the only thing that people really come there for, and all those people only watch/read a couple series, and those people only go to their designated general threads.
The general issue on /a/ is WAY WAY WORSE than it ever was on /v/, and it will never get solved because if you remove the generals, /a/ loses like 80% of its activity instantly and there's nobody waiting in the wings to fill it back up (and the non-general threads have shown that the people posting outside them are /v/tards who, again, barely watch anime and just post about Naruto and ecelebs).
