That's far more realistic of a use-case scenario. Using it as a fancy renderer with a properly grounded truth instead of trying to wholesale create things from pure noise.
However, developments in gaussian splat's are far more likely to overtake for "Muh realism", and if creative types were willing to go full miniature / stop motion, would be perfectly fine for more abstract looks as well.
Probably plenty of space in the market for both.
I'd love to see what a game with that "Raster framework with I2I generation as renderer" method for something that looks like oil paintings and shit.
