sometimes i'll watch an old movie and say, wow, the sound is really bad, how did people tolerate that?

well it turns out the sound was just fine back in the day and the problem is new audio engineers doing the digital equivalent of DNR to all of the old audio.

just listen for yourself, see this comparison for Citizen Kane. what do you think sounds better, the crappy VHS or the brand new Criterion bluray?

i dont understand who does this, and why, and how we can stop them from making old movies sound worse than they already do. no one even knows about this, this guys blog is the only one i can find talking about it
