I am of the same mind. I also suspect that the Wotanic bent seen in early German revivalism (ie. Ludendorff and so on) is potentially the reason for failure. Wotan is not so dissimilar from the Saturnian deity of yahweh, but the supreme God of the Gods of the German(ic)s is Thor (Donar to you, I believe).
But I think the great war left behind a thorough scar that turned us towards the devouring deity Wotan, who is essentially the grim reaper and Saturn/Kronos - and if we are to believe the Greco-Romans, also is yahweh or at least associated with him.
We must find our path to God: the coming man will be an avatar of Thor, Jupiter, Zeus and Indra.
