It's pretty funny how desperately people insist on turn based combat's popularity when the DQ franchise shows nobody actually cares for the gameplay style.
The reason FF, and thus any turn based game, was successful was due to elements outside of that gameplay. DQ innately lacks those and so nobody gives a shit about it. There's a new game coming out in about two months and nobody cares.
