I feel like Metroid will never have a truly great Medtroidvania entry because it's forced to be mass-appeal and accessible. It'll always be dragged down by handholdy tutorials, focus on story over level design, clash between letting the player get lost and find their way vs. making sure everyone can finish it, etc.

Older rockstar also would do dumb over the top shit for fun because they knew it would be fun for the player to do it. Newer rockstar has their head so far up their own ass chasing "realistic" that fun becomes an after thought for a lot of missions. Like whoever thought making Trevor do freight management at the docks was a fun idea was a jackass. Like the only memorable part of the mission is flyoid returning to the apartment at the end covered in shit

Doesn't this shit only work in something like a high trust society where the second someone gets called out for wrongdoing they go quietly with authorities in order to be processed or let go after an investigation has concluded no wrong doing?

Once you get out of that high trust zone people will just brute force over cops regardless of gender because they don't hold any regard for the mutual trust put into society.
