Yeah, after you win a fight you get a processor from either a small pool of starter units if it was a cpu team or boss encounter via a gacha roulette. For the cpu fights you can mess with the roulette data in your save ahead of time to get other units, but there's no way to change what processors a boss will spit out. You can eyeball how good a processor is by the colors around its ridge. HP on top, Attack and Magic on the left, Luck on the right, and Speed on the bottom.Yellow stats are weaker overall, while red stats are the best, but it's only really impactful when a unit has a high base stat to begin with.
Improving your AI routine through the skill tree will have a stronger impact on your performance than a good processor alone, so other than a few specific units that can't be obtained otherwise it can be largely ignored.
Also on another note resource folder now contains images and voice audio sorted by version and unit for convenience.
