Depends. If you complete the dex on all, buddy up every account and basically quadruple the effort for no reason then it's pretty cringe. Playing two is normal. If you have a specific goal, then however many you need for it is fine.
I have 4: two where I put in the effort, level up megas etc. And two where I don't care as much but when I wanted shiny legends then having 4 free daily raid passes was enough in most cases (I spoofed for them btw). I also would get lucky trades for my shiny galarian birds (and non shiny too) to consequently send Home.
