Your comic book superhero movies were popular and engaging when the US still had the image of a benevolent country, full of justice and good people. Even if it wasn't true, everyone had that image of the US, including its own inhabitants.
Now, with the orange moron running wild with racism, veneration of the world's worst dictatorships, and retarded anti-human and anti-environmental decisions made without a second thought, no one wants to see movies of this genre anymore because the dissonance with the harsh reality is so great that even Hollywood propaganda has no effect.
