The thing about Chaos corruption is that it can happen at any time. If someone went back in time to say 61 years before the Horus Heresy and asked Lorgar to turn to Chaos he would have shot that person and burned them at the stake for ever trying to get him to turn against the Emperor. I mean look at the traitor legions you have Emps Children, Sons of Horus and Thousand Sons who are some of the best. Thats why no one should be above suspicsion because Heresy can slip in at any time even among the most loyal as thats all it takes with Chaos is the right opportunity and you can even see it in Titus or even his squad that his men turn against him, and he has doubts about the command structure as well as what the Mechanicum is doing. Thats all it takes really is a series of bad events for Titus and maybe one day he just snaps and feels like the Imperium isnt worth it. Can happen to anyone at any point in their life. And I mean imagine the psychology of a space marine being functionally immortal and very powerful the urge to say fuck it im gonna do my own thing after being treated like shit is gonna happen pretty frequently as initially its not really about turning against the Emperor its rather the Imperium itself is so shitty it no longer reflects the ideals of the Emperor. How to the space marines who fight for centuries deal with that?
How do you stay consistently loyal for that long without ever once being swayed? And thats the thing about corruption by chaos it can start off extremely subtly that even the person subject to it isnt even aware of it.
Yeah the guy can come off as a dick but I think its kinda necessary to be wary of everyone and especially people who have been touched by the warp and fought against Chaos multiple times as well as interacting with powerful artifacts. Its also likely that Titus is a latent psyker
