It's damn good. The only big issue is the stop and start with the melee counter, and even that's fine once you get used to it. It also put Samus' character back on track, and made the Gravity Suit actually cool for once.

This. Even in Samus Returns, you can see a concentrated effort to pivot to the elements and characterization that fans actually like.
