Legacy heroes are built into the DNA of DC. DC really began by taking stuff like Golden Age Flash (Jay Garrick) and making Silver Age Flash (Barry Allen).

The literal first issue of Amazing Spider-Man has him try and join the FF and get caught up in a misunderstanding. The CORE of the character is that he is a loner who tries his best and often gets nothing to show for it but he does it because he has the power to do so.

Fucking letter pages from the original Spider-Man comic are FULL of people thinking Spider-Man could be them, simply because they gave Spider-Man problems like money issues, social problems etc. This idea you need someone to be EXACTLY like someone to connect to them is based on bullshit from modern academia. Spider-Man was popular because he was endearing to people from the start!

This shit is so fucking miserable that these people don't get that.
