They can do that because they have an unobstructed manager running the length of the ship and a runway on top of that. If you're running a Coronado, then it makes sense. What you're proposing is tedious and inefficient. Honestly, with computer guided flying, it wouldn't really matter because both computers would handshake and adjust for landing, but coming from the rear is how they do it with the ISS for obvious reasons.
