A dude named Bill Munns made contact with Mrs. Patterson and got permission to digitally photograph the film that she has in her possession. He took a digital camera and made a copy of every individual frame of the film. From there you can load the imagery to a variety of modern film processing programs and do things like stabilize it, remove faults and scratches from the film itself, and filter out colors for better resolution.
None of the modern technology has confirmed a costume theory, but instead, supports the legitimate claims made by both Patterson and Gimlin.
