Considering nobody liked Ashley in ME1/2 any change was probably gonna marginally improve her standing with players though. So while I think they basically trashed what her character was actually supposed to be, ME3 Ashley isn't really any worse.

I honestly don't know much about it beyond that it replaces Allers with Wong. And I don't even know what Allers was like in ME3 to begin with, because I basically ignored her 90% of the game. She was pretty irrelevant.
