another thing: the way the map system works actively discourages me from exploring
when I make a good amount of progress exploring I go back to the bench just so I can update the map, rather than keep going forward, risk dying and then losing it
so in essence I'm pushed into backtracking needlessly
I'm amazed they didn't fix this shit after people pointed out map flaws in the original
