>Yeah, they're kinda just bootleg vampires until plot setting forces you to be a real one. TBF v5 is sort of drawing a logical conclusion from the offset of the first vampire saying blood is getting weaker and weaker but nWoD is shit because it's trying to have their cake (simplify game mechanics, write new lore, remove "problematic" lore like the sabbat or the rapists and whatever) but also they want to eat it too (keep the same continuity so that it's recognizable instead of some whole new setting like DnD did)
In early 2000s, Thinbloods were basically the character you rooted for because they were at the absolute bottom of the vampire hierarchy, the sad reflection of _you_ because you were at the absolute bottom of the vampire hierarchy while still being a vampire, a source of envy for some because of their resilience to the curse of Cain, and plainly well written. We had rules for playing those, not that most players wanted to play those, but they were like an ideal. Like Golconda: you're not supposed to play a Vampire Buddha in normal play, but they still exist, and by their own existence they shape the world and the setting, etc.
How did we go from "Thinbloods are more pathetic than you and that's very pathetic" to fucking Thinblood alchemy and collecting disciplines like pokemon and V5 expecting you to play Thinbloods and fucking getting all the Elders jailed in a castle just to make it happen.
