It wasn't just the hornsent. Marika's order was hypoctical, full of zealotry and persecution (picrel). It makes me wonder about Radagon, he was a fundamentalist but he was also the one who made peace with Liurnia. He represented a lot of the best of the golden order, maybe that's why he fought so hard to repair the ring. I do wish we got more insight into him in the base game, that's my biggest complaint with the story, it's a little hard to get invested in him and his weird dual nature with Marika when the game gives us so little information about his motivations. I generally didn't like Miquella's part of the DLC story, but I liked his motivation, it seemed like a natural progression from his mother's dream of an all-encompassing order, and hearing Leda say "make the world a gentler place" did kind of get to me after we saw all the terrible things present in the dlc.
