Shadow's had a loose association with coffee for a while and they ramped it up recently. They're making Shadow and Silver obsessed with their favorite "foods" like Sonic and Tails. It doesn't originate from the social media meme, but the social media meme did kickstart it. Sonic Team just made it into "he likes to drink black coffee".
