No it doesn't. Dragon Quest 1 doesn't have a party while SMTV does have a party. Dragon Quest 1 you select your action then it rolls for initiative and then that dictates when your character takes their action. SMTV the player and enemy parties take turns doing all of their actions, and who acts first within a party is based on their agility stat. Not only that but in SMTV you can gain more actions in a turn through enemy weaknesses or netting critical hits and can deprive enemies from actions by not being harmed by their attacks.
