Even back in the 90's MTV was getting tons of criticism for straying away from their original intent of playing music videos 24/7.

But for a time they were like the closest equivalent to [adult swim] in the sense of producing a bunch of random adult cartoons. I mean if it wasn't for MTV taking a chance on Beavis and Butt-Head we might not have other Mike Judge projects like King of the Hill.
