Mid tiers are generally where the one-hit-kills come into play, but higher tiers do get decently bulky. It's less about stacking defense and HP and more about being able to out-heal incoming damage, I'd say; which lends itself well to strategy since you have to pick the right times to heal, when to attack a vital enemy, or when to just use a movement trick to avoid (or even redirect) damage entirely. And that's not to mention things like mind games, anticipating the opponent's moves, or specific weapon builds that give an edge...Things really do get a lot more tactical once you're dealing with people who know how to both fight and trick you convincingly.
