Part of the movie was filmed on hi8 which basically looks like VHS footage (no grain) but also 29fps interlaced, the black and white parts were shot in real film, but in the final movie they added film grain to the VHS parts to make it consistent but not accurate .
The remaster gets rid of that grain, like this screenshot is from the hi8 portion, and it’s clean and smooth
