it's a good movie but it's unfinished. A horror movie without monsters is just a suspense thriller.

Was this dude /tv/'s favorite character of the trio?

Losing the map was a dick move and he complained a lot. But once one of them went missing, he went Alpha Mode and charged into a haunted house to save some dude he just met 2 days ago.

That's America strong, baby! Fuck witches! We comin' for you! Can't wait for the sequel where we get revenge.

Guess I prefer suspense thrillers by far then. Because if there's a monster or ghost it gets either comical, animal-scary or sad on rewaches and the horror aspect is lost to me.

I expect 'horror' to downright scare me so that I feel at unease days or even weeks after. If it's just interesting with a paranormal twist it's more like a paranormal thriller. Jumpscare and splatter are gruesome entertainment.

The scariest thing for me about Blair Witch when I was a little kid was when I snuck on to the web site for the original movie. I am not going to say it was well done - I was like 11 - but it did in fact scare the shit out of me, and I believed it at the time for whatever reason.

I'm not usually one who like "lore" or reads up upon that, but the Blair Witch related stuff always fascinated me. For me it's the perfect horror setting. It has got everything.

That videogame did a great job. Honestly, I am almost angry that it got "wasted" on it, i.e. no one played it or knows about it. The managed to incorporate everything mentioned in the film and the faux documentary.

>>214428461
My first experience was in 2003. I wasn't even that youn, I was 14. I have only heard about it, but living in a 3rd world country it was impossible for me to watch it. Until that one october when it aired on TV. I taped it with my VCR and watched it in the afternoon. It was bright daylight. Once the credits rolled I was sat there for 15 minutes, I could barely move. I was so compelled by it, I didn't even know what to think. I have never seen a horror film like that and I wasn't just scared shitless, I was also obsessed with it.

Don't listen to this idiot >>214422396 please. Saying a horror movie always requires a monster is on the same level as pretending all horror needs to be supernatural when this hasn't been the case for decades now. It's a suspense movie, but if the primary purpose of the suspense is to create a sense of unease in the viewer and building up to a few frights which you have to be a complete dumbass not to notice is what TBWP tries to do then that makes it a horror movie, not a thriller. It's not that difficult to understand even if there's a lot of overlap.

And they were never going to show the witch regardless due to budgetary constraints so it wasn't "unfinished" just because your expectations weren't met which you only have yourself to blame for. Next time do your research and learn the difference between psychological horror and supernatural horror while you're at it.

You really need to read or listen to the short story "Sticks" by Karl Edward Wagner. It's in his famous anthology "In a Lonely Place" that was hard to get for decades until it was republished in 2021. Sticks inspired The Blair Witch project. The whole tone is masterful horror writing

There's definitely some serious existential horror going on in 2001 I could totally see it as one personally. I mean just ask yourself which movie has the most 2001 DNA in it between Alien and Star Wars despite both taking a lot of inspiration from it and the answer is clear.

Yep. In A Lonely Place also has a story called More Sinned Against. It's a shift in style, telling a modern day Hollywood Babylon/Life in the Fast Lane story, that involves porn, drugs, and Voodoo. The ending was amazing. I could totally picture it being adapted. We could use more modern Voodoo stories.

Probably Hereditary.
Watching it for the first time it seemed like it was going to be some gay "mental illness is the real evil" drama but the last 30 minutes or so put that to bed.
It benefits from repeat viewing because when you know what's actually going on you spot more little signs along the way.

Sounds intriguing I'll have to check it out sometime anon. It saddens me greatly that most people only seem to know Stephen King's name when it comes to horror literature when there are far better writers than him within the genre who go unnoticed because Hollywood didn't favor them the same way.
