i have a small room that i want to put shelves in. the shelves will hold milk crates filled with items and would probably total 100 lbs at most, but i'd like them to be strong enough in case the weight ever needs to go higher. i don't have a lot of experience with knowing what's structurally stable so i made some pics and thought i could ask here
>are 1x4's okay or do i need 2x4's? i am hoping something lightweight is okay since they'll only be 13" deep
>do i need additional support anywhere? i want to leave the area underneath free for a desk, so i was thinking about drilling 2x6's into the ceiling joists and connecting them to the corners of the shelf frame using steel cable. if so, can the shelf span the ~4' length between the cables or will i need multiple cable supports along the long side of the shelf?
>should joist hangers be used anywhere (like for the facing boards forming the cross-lap) or are pocket hole connections enough?
