Islam was always the tolerant religion. In general they allowed Christian’s and loved Jews for most of history. It was only until recently that they became extremist and started persecuting Christians.

Catholics on the other hand were basically ISIS of the Middle Ages. Entire villages would be wiped out if only part of the village practiced something heretical. They used their religion to force convert during the northern crusades. And don’t even get me started with the what they did with the Protestants.

Now the roles are reversed.
