Can someone explain the appeal of 2D side-scrollers like Silksong and other pixel-style games? I can appreciate smart design and tight controls, but I struggle with the core feel of the gameplay. What is it that hooks you? sense of mastery and speedrunning potential?
I’m asking honestly because I’ve always gravitated toward “big tech” experiences, open worlds, 3D immersion, heavy physics, think the stuff I loved as a kid, like GTA back in the 2000s. When I look at 2D games, my brain labels them as “mobile-style” and I bounce off.
