The problem with that is that GT wasn't actually all that consistent with that, there exist scenes of Super Saiyan 3 Goku with a brown tail instead of gold. That bled back over into Heroes where he's given the same treatment as everyone else (Bardock, Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, Cumber, and the avatars don't have gold tails).
