SMB3 honestly never clicked with me all that well. Great game for all it's worth, but the amount of playtime you have to spend to beat a game (without whistles) always threw me off. It's not the same as SMB1 where you can crunch a whole warpless game in 45min on average. I dunno, maybe I just love pick-up-and-play games better.

I'm curious, how is Sims 4 the only thing that helps you unwind? I'd assume a lot of games/activities would do the trick just fine, at least for me, honestly; I don't even know if I actually unwind most of the time lol.

I think I see exactly what you mean, it's a story being in the way of the experience. I don't see an issue with Mario games having a little bit more of character/story drive, but I agree that, in order for it to work, it must be done in a very specific manner that doesn't get in the way of the game. I say for a Story/Character driven Mario game to work, you have to sacrifice its substance and keep it relatively surface level; characters can be silly and have their moments, but it all must leave the game feel be priority, not sideline it... something where story/character elements are reserved for brief intermissions, subtextual narrative and short chit-chat would be nice (kinda like Kirby).

Mario Bros and Donkey Kong for me, but only the NES games. Never got my way around Wrecking Crew, honestly.
