If GW wasnt a bunch of brown-nosing cowards with Cathay's lore they could have them be larping as an originator of tech. They could have independently come up with gunpowder, but have it be that they reverse-engineered Chorf blunderbusses and Skaven Jezzails for their guns.
Now they're even true to pre-modern China where they're in a constant game of catchup from fighting themselves with no incentive to invent new things, especially when they have immortal leaders that would no doubt hate seeing shit change from how they remember it from centuries past.
