The story would've been better if it just kept focusing on Fuuka in the second half. There was still an interesting concept there to explore with how she felt about an aquarium career now that she wasn't doing it solely for Kukuru's sake since Gama Gama closed. Instead we got Kukuru going through wagie hell while Fuuka somehow breezes through professional aquarium work with only a single summers worth of experience. And then it just ends on a badly asspulled separation arc where Fuuka gets the opportunity to go abroad instead of Kukuru.
