I personally enjoy the initial twist about the painters and explanation behind the world. But I don't like how the final ten minutes undermines the plight of the expeditions in favor of making the final choice feel like it's all about the Dessendres.

It makes everyone assume that killing the canvas is an allegory for moving on from grief and that it's the only way to move forward, despite the fact that 95% of the actual story and how you actually engage with it is dedicated to making you care about giving Lumiere a chance of a real future.
