That's literally why they're doing this whole Xbox/Windows unified console strategy. Microsoft couldn't give two shits if PlayStation wins the console war. It's a shrinking market that's increasingly irrelevant for phone/tablet kiddies; their revenue from hardware sales is practically a rounding error. But if SteamOS actually took off as a desktop alternative, that would cripple their entire company.
