I mean it goes beyond culture war stuff. For example that video is just a directly relevant and fundamentally important issue. If you can't read, then you can't write, and if you can't write then you can't think.
I mean these guys put together the Great Books of the Western World set and wrote this essay in 1952 basically as a mission statement that if people can't fucking read then democracy dies.
The very first Federalist Paper basically outlines the US as a great experiment to see if people can structure and participate in a government based on reason rather than force.
I guess we're actively losing the battle though.
