it's an M-AUDIO Keystation 49 MK3. It's got generally good reviews, wasn't too expensive and came with a music software (ableton 12 live lite) included for free so that's what I bought.
Tried it out a bit more today and one thing I really notice is that i'm not used to how the hands are positioned. normally I operate a PC with mouse and keyboard (almost exclusively stuff that controls with WASD), so the hands being so close together is unusual and feels a bit odd.
don't know if it has a feature like you described, it'd probably have to be done in the software.
i'm considering if I should label the keys with letters to make it a bit easier for the beginning.
