I've updated my game from the game jam with some new stuff, and changes to make it a little shorter and less repetitive. The main thing is: you can now pick one of three kirin to play as! Each one has different spells and effects. If you were interested in the first version from the jam, I think you'll like this update!

It depends on what type of projects they are, but perhaps you have problems of scope? Try doing a relatively small project that you can finish more quickly, so there's less chance of you getting distracted or burnt out. If you are continually starting huge ambitious things that take 6 months you may be hard pressed to finish them. That being said, it's not necessarily bad to have 2 projects at once. Switching between them every week or so can help keep your mind fresh.

perhaps this might be of interest to you music people, I found out there's electric kazoos! there's even people on youtube plugging them into guitar pedals to make all sorts of sounds.
me I have no musical doings so far and never learned an instrument, but I ordered myself a (regular) kazoo, a midi keyboard and a mouth harp yesterday, being able to play/make music seems like a good (and eventaully, fun) skill to pick up.
>>42501284
is this just the way they're cast or could this also be used like those "excavate your own dino" kits?

cool, I have 2 (one looks like picrel), not sure on the brand but Ive always loved the sound of musical resonance. The reason I ask was maybe it would've been fun to do a non-musician jam session with novelty instruments, I might bring a jaw harp anyway, and last year I swear I heard a theremin coming from one of the hotel rooms
Anonymous No.42502547 >>42502553

a good idea, i'm sure one would find some people interested in trying out different instruments.
though i'm not sure if a jaw harp would be the best for such an occasion, at least not for handing around, less because it's something you put in your mouth but moreso because if someone holds it wrong (and surely that risk grows the more you're distracted from just having a great time and/or are tipsy) there's the real risk of chipping a tooth. wouldn't wanna risk ruining anyone's weekend with that.
some other instruments that come to mind that might be good for something like this would be a kalimba and a stylophone

Its just how they're cast. You could probably use them as a excavate your own dino kit, but it'd be a lot harder since this specific mold material is a fired ceramic and theres also a lot of clean up for the metal that comes after removing it from the mold.
Though I guess something like that would be possible to make by just covering a finished cast in plaster of paris or something similar

it's an M-AUDIO Keystation 49 MK3. It's got generally good reviews, wasn't too expensive and came with a music software (ableton 12 live lite) included for free so that's what I bought.
Tried it out a bit more today and one thing I really notice is that i'm not used to how the hands are positioned. normally I operate a PC with mouse and keyboard (almost exclusively stuff that controls with WASD), so the hands being so close together is unusual and feels a bit odd.
don't know if it has a feature like you described, it'd probably have to be done in the software.
i'm considering if I should label the keys with letters to make it a bit easier for the beginning.

... and that's a big keyboard too! I've usually gone with smaller keyboards over the years, I don't _play_ keyboard, more just use it to lay down some ideas while recording the midi, but I did take piano lessons and did drills as a kid... I looked it up and yep HANON EXERCISES, that's a blast from the past, give those a shot to get more used to the feeling
Also, check out Reaper, it's a cheap ($60) very powerful DAW (and it also runs on linux which is important for me), you can load VSTs like Odin2 or whatever, but I haven't messed with that much

yeah i figured if I get a small keyboard it may be more handy, but if a song required more range i'd constantly have to press some buttons to switch octaves and that would distract.
gonna look at those exercises, hope it helps.

As a reaper user theres one glaring issue with reaper being it is JUST a daw, meaning unlike every other daw that comes with pre-installed plug-ins Reaper comes with absolutely nothing. This isn't me saying Reaper is bad (as I use Reaper) but it provides a pretty steep starting curve since you have to actually look for software at the start of using it compared to every other daw, love it, but just a heed of what your getting yourself into when actually using Reaper.

yeah, I never really vibed with reaper until years later when multitrack recording was the main thing I was doing. The first DAW I really jammed with (besides FL off Kazaa) was Propellerhead Reason, which is sort of the exact opposite of Reaper. I actually haven't used many external plugins myself with Reaper, I mentioned Odin2 because that's the only synth VST Ive installed, unless DrumGizmo counts.
You're 100% right to warn, I gave up on using Reaper a couple times in the past, but once I got it (thanks youtube tuts) it became my DAW for life

Just curious, how much in materials does it cost per filly?
I'm guesing that the MLW beanies are ~8" with the loaves being the same size?

picrel is a wallet project I stitched by hand, it is a wallet to say the least, but It was mostly to just get familiarity with hand stitching since I know plushes will need a ton of more precise hand stitching operations for embroidery, blanket/hidden stitches and etc.

Also went ahead and sewed Coco Pommel and a skunk pony. These two have belly magnets so they can be worn on the shoulder. Coco's Pommel's tie is removable as well.

They have scent sachets inside too! Coco smells like lavender and vanilla, while the skunk pony smells like juniper and elderberries

I'm down for rehoming them, so if you see them at Mare Fair and you want to adopt Coco...or a skunk pony, you'll have to find me!

>>42518014
Doing some napkin math, one ~8" beanie filly with machine embroidery costs about $27.50 to $51.50 to make. Realistically it's much cheaper, but I cannot make a good estimate on how much thread is needed so I'm including the whole spool.

Here's a list of materials I used with current prices so you can see where I'm coming from:

>Fabric
Green Minky: $14/yard (only need 1/4, so $3.50)
Black Minky: $14/yard (only need 1/4, so $3.50)

>Notions
Embroidery Thread: $2-5 per 250yd spool (need bobbin thread, black, white, three greens, so $12-30)
General Purpose Thread: $2-5 per 500yd spool (ideally need black and green, so $4-10)
Water-Soluble Stabilizer: $13 per 7" x 9 yd roll (need about 24 inches with a 4x4 hoop; so about $1)
Cut-away Stabilizer: $13.50 per 8'' x 11 yd roll (need about 24 inches, so about $1)
Stuffing: $15 for a 32 ounce bag (around 4 oz, about $2)
Beads: $7 for a 1 lb bag (need 30g, about $0.50)

As a whole, you're looking at around $116.50 to get all these materials, but you can bring this down cheaper if you source your materials locally and buy only as much fabric as you need. The loaves are ~4" long excluding the tail, so the loaves require fewer materials and can be made much cheaper.

I would definitely recommend making a beanie if you want to practice hand stitching! You'll have to use plenty of backstitches and hidden stitches to make one, wew.

still this is probably the closest ive gotten to a fully finished idea i have had. cus i want it to be like kind of obnoxious and loud cause i really like that sonically, but because of that it might be Rlly fucking far from being to where i want it to be quality wise idk but even if it is tho Its Ok cause its REALLY fucking fun to make ngl

Actually, for the funsies I also quickly did the Faroese dubbed songs, but I searched high and I searched low, but I couldn't find the Faroese versions of The Show Stoppers and Baby Cakes so I cannot complete the Faroese collection. They can be seen in archive.org on the website they were hosted on, but they don't load. Well. I also wanted to do the Dutch dubbed songs next, but I couldn't find its media being hosted in full anywhere, so I am going to do Polish next, which is fully available. Thinking about it, I don't really know how I am going to be able to translate the track titles of non-Latin alphabet languages in the future - that's going to be hard - but I also wasn't able to translate the titles for the Faroese dubbed songs, so yeah.

newfag sewanon here
I just finished a cover for my sewing machine, but I fucked up the measurements and didn’t realize the case itself needs to be 5 pieces instead of 4 pieces.
It looks ugly but it covers the machine.
I’m still far away from making plushes of pony but I think I’ll get there, are there any projects I can do? I currently have scrap cotton fabric from a pair of old shorts and a bedsheet (this case itself is made of that bedsheet)

i used this pattern, it was pretty straightforward and easy. I did hand sew the entire thing though since i did do it on a smaller scale. I wish i could remember the @ of the op since i remember they made a step my step tutorial on deviantart i think

sewanon back
I’m busy repairing this old quilt for practice sewing, the patches look fine right? It’s also given me good practice handling cumbersome fabric under a small household sewing machine (have to cut the bobbin threads then reposition, etc)
Once I get some money from my job, I’ll consider cutting out some of the mare patterns (I have surplus blue and purple felt), sewing them, and learning from my mistakes. That and I need to learn how to sew darts
Anonymous No.42536315
The cover for the sewing machine has been relegated to pillow cover status since I somehow fucked up and don’t have a proper bottom opening. In this new role it’s surprisingly comfortable.

Sewanon back, still patching the quilt.
7 1/2 patches are done (1/2 because it’s late and I have to eat, so one patch still has seams that need to be finished).
I tried using different fabrics, figured out a easier way to sew bulkier materials where I might have difficulty finding the lower bobbin thread without pulling the entire quilt off the machine, and all of this experience should transfer well into handling bulky fabric on a small home machine.
Hopefully after my first paycheck I can experiment with appliquΓ© and making patterns/following patterns off of paper. I might sew some featureless felt mares as a test run then.

I wonder if Rarity is proud of me..

How do you patch a quilt? Aren't the stitches supposed to be on the inside? Or is that why there are stitches everywhere, to hide them?

I’m not bothering hiding the stitches, but the decorative straight stitching is visible on both sides. I need to take a look at how the squares are actually joined though. It might just be color matched thread.
