For me, LUCT felt like it got lost in the weeds. More convoluted =/= better. FFT was more focused and streamlined in its storytelling, which allowed its cast and events to be more memorable. The framing device of the story being told from the perspective of a historian putting together what really happened back then is also very good. It all paints a very clear and compelling picture.

As a complete package, LUCT feels extremely rough compared to FFT and its multiple routes and inconsistent characterizations are distractions. Looking back it feels all over the place, and most of its cast was very flat.

I heard about that too, and I still think it was a mistake on their part. I think FF12 makes a lot of odd choices like that, so I can't call myself a big fan
