I wouldn't want them to go into fanfic territory. The results being decided by real life provides a unique layer to the franchise, there'll never be a 'bullshit victory' brought on by authorial bias and that's quite unique.

I also think allowing Tachyon to be the 'antagonist' was a nice move, since it not only gave us the vibe of the era- But also made Tachyon all the more impressive in winning the empathy of the audience while maintaining the role of Pocket's PTSD for most of the flick. Though I do wish we got more Café. For being part of the rl JAM (Jungle/Agnes/Manhattan), she had the least screen-time by far.
