I've been looking everywhere and I can't find this book
I can't remember the title or the author. I read it in middle school and it's stuck with me. I've tried finding it a few times online and haven't been able to figure out what it is.
From what I remember:
Takes place in late 90s/early 2000s
Main character is a young metalhead type. Goes to concerts, moshpits, wears band shirts
He meets a girl who is severely burned and falls in love. The girl is wearing a wig when he first meets her. She is missing her ears from the burns.
I distinctly remember one point after they've been together for a while where he goes to nuzzle her ear and is filled with a kind of unintentional revulsion when he finds it missing.
I think he ends up breaking up with her and then regretting it and is crushed when she doesn't want to get back with him. I think the vibe was almost that he was doing her a favor by loving her and that he was shocked when she didn't see it that way.
Does anyone have any idea what this might be? I've looked literally everywhere. Book databases, reddit, everywhere on google. It must've been in my middle school library, so it can't be that obscure.
